From prestigious museums and universities, to blockbuster films, amusement park rides, video games, and toys--dinosaurs have always fascinated us. But, why?
WHY DINOSAURS? follows dino-obsessed youth James Pinto and his filmmaker father (Tony Pinto) on a journey around the world, interviewing world renowned paleontologists about the latest dinosaur research, and encountering dinosaur fanatics of all walks of life.
After a sensational red carpet premiere in Hollywood, there was great support for the next stage for the documentary, an international premiere!
Everyone agreed that there would be nowhere better than Yorkshire for an international premiere of a dinosaur documentary. Well, at least enough people did to make it happen! Thanks to the efforts of filmmaker Tony Pinto, world renowned palaeontologist Dean Lomax, and museum chairman James Hogg, the documentary is coming to the Showroom Cinema in Sheffield on Saturday 1st June.
Tickets are selling fast so be sure not to miss out! Use the following link to book now: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/why-dinosaurs-sheffield-uk-extended-screening-tickets-893353332867?aff=oddtdtcreator
The YNHM is a public museum dedicated to making the sciences as accessible as possible.
We operate as both a public repository for specimens and an independent research organisation.
At the Yorkshire Natural History Museum, many of our fossils date back millions of years. We conserve over 10,000 specimens in our collection in perpetuity for the benefit of the public.
We are fortunate to have the most well-equipped palaeontology laboratory in the country in our museum. We collaborate with museums and universities across the globe, with our team of active researchers continually producing academic publications.
Ever wondered how palaeontologists extract fossils from rocks? How dinosaur bones are revealed from stone? Well now you can learn exactly how scientists do this, and even do so yourself!
A unique experience at the museum presented by our supporter Neo Jurassica. Come and have a go in a real working laboratory. No actors, you are taught by qualified palaeontolgists and get a true hands-on experience.
With a 12 person capacity, the experience is perfect for group bookings of families, friends and even for couples on a date!
The public laboratory is suitable for everyone over the age of 12, no need for any prior experience or knowledge on fossils.
Book now to get an exclusive tour guided experience of the museum's collection by one of our curators. Learn about the collection directly from the experts with a more hands-on approach to viewing the displays.
Ever wanted to hold a real dinosaur bone? Well on these tours you can, along with other incredible up-close experiences with genuine ancient specimens in our collection. Wish to learn more about particular objects? Feel free to ask as many questions as you like, we will be delighted to answer.
Our tours are perfect for tailored educational visits, and are suitable for visitors of all ages.
